Shopping in Gaucin, Andalucia and the Costa del Sol towns and resorts
For normal and everyday shopping Gaucín has just about everything you need to sustain you at Casa Mirador holiday home accommodation with a number of shops and small supermarkets in the village. There are also a number of larger supermarkets for bulk shopping nearer the coast.
For those who want a larger choice of shops however, or to buy shoes, clothes or other similar items, there are a number of towns and resorts, mainly along the coast.
Estepona is a decent size Spanish town with a covered market (Saturdays) and lots of clothes and shoe shops on the main pedestrian shopping street which runs parallel to the main coast road. On Wednesday there is a big open-air market with clothing and other goods on the edge of the town near the motorway.
Ronda has a fun, pedestrianised central shopping street, which gets very busy but is always entertaining. It has a mixture of clothes, some good shoe and bag shops, ironmongers, pharmacies, household goods, souvenirs, the side streets.
For upmarket shopping, i.e. Gucci, Versace, visit Marbella and Puerto Banús. Wander round old town Marbella, and the marina at Puerto Banus. Apart from the shops in the Marina, there is also a shopping centre in Puerto Banus: the Centro Comercial Costa Marbella which has a big branch of Spain’s only department store chain, El Corte Inglés
The biggest shopping centre in the area is ‘La Canada’ just off the motorway at Marbella. It has an enormous hypermarket, but also has a lot of clothes shops and household/lifestyle shops. There is also a huge cinema complex.
The town of Ubrique is an easy hour’s journey to the north, through stunning countryside. The town itself is not very beautiful but is in a wonderful setting. Its main claim to fame is that it has been making leather goods for hundreds of years. One main street is full of shops selling handbags, belts, and various accessories at very reasonable prices.
